I’ve heard from many of my clients and peers how the news about the world is difficult for them these days, leading to feelings of sadness, anxiety, or depression. It may even get even more difficult in the coming weeks leading up to and on the November 6th Election Day. As a healthcare practitioner, I’ve been thinking recently about how I could help people deal with these stressful, difficult, emotions while benefiting not only ourselves but also those around us.
This is why I’m leading a 20-day Meditate for Peace challenge for the 20 days leading up to the November election. At a time when it feels like there is nothing we can do, I truly believe that we can make a difference in the world around us by turning inwards and training our minds to respond to darkness in the world with LIGHT and PEACE. The first time I did Michelle Zarrin’s 20/20 Meditate for Peace series in January of 2017 was the first time I ever meditated for more than a few days at a time and actually, by the end of the 20 days, I continued on with her 10-day Gratitude series. I can’t even describe to you how LIGHT I felt after just 20 days of this practice. Any challenge that came my way felt so much easier to handle. Things just didn’t bother me anymore. People told me I looked happy all the time. I cannot promise everyone will have the same experience I did, but my hope is that 20 days of this meditation for peace will send more light into the world and provide you with the tools to better handle any stress or difficult news you may receive. And so that no matter what the outcome on Election Day, you remain intact. :)
So please, join me in this 20-day meditation for peace movement, starting on Wednesday, October 17th, 2018 and invite your friends along on the journey, too!
Dates: October 17 - November 5, 2018
When: We will be meditating for 1 minute on the first day, 2 minutes on the 2nd day, all the way up to 20 minutes on the 20th day. You can listen to the meditations at any time of the day you like, as long as you commit to pressing play every day. Many people choose to listen first thing in the morning (which is what I recommend), but it may be easier for others to meditate during your lunch break or as soon as you get home from work, or before going to bed. Do whatever works for you. It’s recommended that you choose a time/location where you can close your eyes and won’t be interrupted for at least a few minutes at first, but if all you have is a few minutes on the bus or waiting at the doctor’s office, that works too!
Where: The meditations are available on Insight Timer (meditation app you can download for free here), on any podcast app (search for Michelle Zarrin Meditate for Peace), or online at her website (Day one is here).
We also have a Facebook page for everyone to join. We’ll post a link to the meditation each day and everyone should feel free to post when they’ve completed the meditation for the day, how it went, challenges/barriers you’re experiencing to completing the meditations, any changes you’re noticing in your experience of day-to-day life (if any, this is not a requirement!), and finally, a reminder to vote on Election Day!
What: Listen to the Introduction to the meditation here if you want to get an idea of Michelle’s voice and what to expect
Why: Michelle Zarrin created this 20/20 Meditate for Peace Movement a few years ago and very eloquently explains why she created this meditation series:
20/20 Meditate for Peace is our response to the chaos created by the collective outrage that dominates our planet. It is in response to the current turmoil of our world. However, by no means is this movement a protest. Quite the contrary, it is an internal movement.
This is what I mean:
If you think you cannot make a difference in our vast world, think again.
On a deep subconscious level, we exchange energy with everyone in our life – both strangers and familiar people. Without realizing it, you have the capability of lifting someone up, merely through the energy you possess.
We are simple, us human beings, for we function on one of two emotions: fear or love.
Right now on our planet, the energy of fear has gone viral. We cannot cast out darkness with darkness. The only sane response to fear-driven thinking is rooted in love, forgiveness, and compassion.
In order to make a difference on our planet, you have to first make a difference within yourself. Remember, we live in a cause and effect universe.
The world needs you. Every single person that taps into his/her peace and love has the ability to make a profound difference in the lives all of those around them.
By commit to meditating for 20 consecutive days in the spirit of love, compassion, and harmony, you raise your own vibrations, and you become a force for good in your family and community. Every person who comes in contact with you will be positively affected by you.
We have created the 20/20 Meditate for Peace Movement just for this purpose.
If you have never meditated and have no idea what to expect of this world, do not worry. This course is designed for beginners as well as seasoned meditators.
Can one person make a difference?
More than you will ever know.
We are grateful to you for wanting to make a change.
Let's sit in meditation, and heal our planet --together.
